The exhibition is based on research into the history of colonization, the media of the mid-19th and early 21st centuries, and family histories of the colonists.
Murmansk coast, Murman — the northern coast of the Kola Peninsula, was well known to the inhabitants of the north of Russia, Norway and Finland. Since the 1860s. For many of them Murman has become the "Coast of Hope". The Russian authorities wanted to populate the border coast, and in order to attract and support the settlers, they were ready to provide them with various benefits and privileges. Some hoped for a better life, others wanted to try something new. Open borders allowed them to move further to the east.
