Comparative approaches in social work with children and youth in Russia and Norway

On the 4th–8th of April 2016 in Norwegian Arctic University (Finnmark Faculty, Alta) was held an international seminar on «Comparative approaches in social work with children and youth in Russia and Norway». Svetlana Petoshina, Ph. D., Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences and Tatiana Tegaleva, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Deputy Director for the social work at the Institute of Social sciences and Humanities read lectures on the basics social work, considered the main social problems in Russia, as well as provided information on professional and methodological approaches in solving social problems.

Students of bachelor and master degrees in «Social Work» and «Sociology» took an active part in group discussions, using examples from the practical experience and voluntary activities.

During the seminar teachers from Russia and Norway discussed the basic concepts of social work, the similarities and differences in social practices and technologies, the prospects for the development of social work in both countries and shared experience in the field of social services and social support. Students visited the House of Youth and Social Care Youth Center, where they got acquainted with the main activities of these establishments.

At the end of a course students of MASU and UiT successfully passed the exam and got the diplomas.

In May of 2017 it is planned to hold such an international seminar in Murmansk Arctic State University, which will bring together students and teachers from Norway.
