BCBU English courses in Arkhangelsk
From January 30 to February 2, 2012 intensive English course «English For International Lectures» was organized at Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov in Arkhangelsk for Russian teachers of Barents Cross Border University network.
This course was attended by the teachers involved in implementation of Barents Cross Border University Development Project financed by the Program Kolarctic ENPI CBC: Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Northern State Medical University, Petrozavodsk State University, Karelian State Pedagogical Academy, Murmansk State Technical University and Murmansk State Humanities University, the latter was represented by Inna Ryzhkova, director of Center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs, PhD, Associate Professor, Svetlana Petoshina, PhD, Associate professor at department of Social Work and Organization of Youth Affairs, Tatiana Tegaleva, dean deputy of History and Social Sciences Faculty, senior lecturer at department of Social Work and Organization of Youth Affairs.
The course was taught by a native English speaker — University of Oulu professor Michael Hurd who gave instruction in oral presentation and oratory art, academic writing, phonetics and grammar, he also gave separate classes for teachers of each master program developed within BCBU network: Comparative Social Work, IT, Environmental Engineering. Moreover Mr. Hurd gave individual consultations to the course participants.
The course participants were given certificates.
«English for International Lectures» is the second course organized within BCBU+ project.
The first course «Working on-line in the BCBU+ project» took place in November 2011 at University of Oulu, Finland and was also attended by MSHU representatives Alexandra Burtseva, deputy director of Center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs, PhD in pedagogy, and Svetlana Petoshina, PhD in Philosophy, Associate professor at department of Social Work and Organization of Youth Affairs.
Also, winter school for students in Social Policy and Human Rights ran simultaneously with the English course at Northern (Arctic) Federal University within BCBU Comparative Social Work program.
Graduate and post-graduate students from University of Lapland, Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Northern State Medical University, Petrozavodsk State University and Murmansk State Humanities University took part in the winter school.
MSHU was represented by two third year students in Social Work: Anastasiya Romanova and Anna Filipchuk.
Winter school involved intensive lectures, seminars and visits to social institutions. Students were delivered lectures by professor from University of Lapland Tarja Orjasniemi, professor from Northern Arctic Federal University Elexey Feldt, professor from Northern State Medical University Andrey Soloviev and they took part in workshops on the lecture’s topics.
MSHU students Anastasya and Anna made a presentation on Childhood Social Policy for Children Left without Parental Care (in Murmansk Center for children left without parental care).
Apart from face-to-face discussions between Winter school students, some aspects of social work with University of Lapland students were discussed through video connection.
Students also visited Rehabilitation Center for physically challenged children and learned more about center’s work specifics.
Students also visited Museum the complex «Estate of E. K. Plotnikova» and made there with their own hands traditional Arkhangelsk sweets — kozuly.
