Guests from the University of Lapland
On 21.09.2011 MSHU received an official delegation from the University of Lapland (Rovaniemi, Finland) represented by Mauri Ylä-Kotola, rector, and Outi Snellman, head of International Office, who is simultaneously taking the position of the vice-president of the University of the Arctic, which is a network of universities, colleges and other organizations working in the sphere of higher education and scientific research in the North.
The program of the visit was very tight. From 11.00 till 12.00 there were negotiations with the administration of our university: Andrey Sergeev, rector, and Pavel Fedorov, deputy rector for science and research. Inna Ryzhkova, head of the Center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs, and Mikhail Smirnyakov, head of International Office, were also present at the negotiations. As a result our universities signed the cooperation agreement.
From 12.20 till 14.00 Mauri Ylä-Kotola, an honored professor of MSHU, gave an open lecture «New media science». Outi Snellman also made a presentation about the work of the University of the Arctic. The assembly hall was packed. This event took place within the inner MSHU project «The big world» and aroused great interest of students and lecturers of our university, and of the regional mass media. Moreover, a guest of the lecture was Sari Pöyhönen, a representative of the Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg, Murmansk office.
Further on, after a small break the guests from Finland had individual programs. Rector Mauri Ylä-Kotola visited the Faculty of Art Education, Technology and Design where he got acquainted with students’ works and discussed prospects of mutual cooperation in the sphere of art education and design with the Faculty administration and lecturers. As a token of gratitude and respect the Faculty presented Mauri Ylä-Kotola his portrait made by honored artist of Russia Vitaly Bubentsov in a pastel technique. For Outi Snellman it was the first visit to Murmansk that is why she was offered a city tour.
Both Russian and Finnish parties were fully satisfied with the results of the meeting. The University of Lapland is an old and reliable partner of MSHU.
