Seminar in Lovozero

On April 7 Lovozero hosted an international scientific seminar within the network for the research into social sciences in the Arctic «Kola reindeer husbandry communities in the post-Soviet 1920-s: problems of the remote settlements». Among the participants there were members of the Sámi Parliament, representatives of reindeer husbandry communities, scholars of Murmansk State Humanities University and Center for Humanities Problems of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Apatity).

At the seminar MSHU was represented by A. V. Nikolaev, PhD in Veterinary medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Physical Culture and Vital Security, O. N. Ivanischeva, Doctor of Philology, Head of the Laboratory for the Sámi Language, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication, V. R. Tsylev, PhD in Philosophy, Head of the Laboratory for Sociological Research.

The goal of the seminar is to define causes of low efficiency of 20 years of project activities oriented at reindeer breeding as traditional natural management and culture-forming factor as well as to join together efforts of practitioners and scholars in solving reindeer breeding problems.
