Project «Public-private partnership in Barents region»

On the 15th — 18th of March a kick-off meeting within the project «Public-private partnership in Barents region» took place at Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences.

The participants of the project are Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia. The project is aimed at creating development mechanisms in the sphere of tourism in the Barents region. The first stage of the project (2011-2012) is oriented at conducting sociological research, the target groups for which are tour operators and travel companies.

The Murmansk region was represented by four structures: the Ministry of Economic development of Murmansk region, Murmansk State Humanities University (the regional coordinator), Murmansk State Technical University and the Administration of Monchegorsk. MSHU participants of the seminar were Inna Ryzhkova, Director of the Center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs and the project coordinator, Ludmila Gerashchenko, Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology and the Scientific Supervisor of the project and interpreter Yulia Shestova.

During the meeting they discussed issues related to the content and action plan of sociological research, main legal documents and the project budget. All the partners made presentations on the current situation in the sphere of tourism in each region.

The next meeting within the project will take place in Luleå at the University of Technology in November 2011.
