On the 15.03.2011 in the assembly hall an enlarged meeting of the Academic Board with an invitation of the scientific and teaching staff and students took place, which was dedicated to awarding the Rector of the University of Tromsø Mr. Jarle Aarbakke attributes of Honorary Professor of Murmansk State Pedagogical University.
The event was held at the hall full of teachers and students, representing all faculties of our university. At the beginning of the meeting Rector of MSHU A. M. Sergeev made a presentation on international activities of our university as a whole and on the cooperation with Norwegian universities in particular. It was noted that the University of Tromsø is one of the main foreign partners of MSHU.
Mr. Aarbakke, in turn, delivered a lecture on «Role and importance of universities in regional development in the North». The basic idea of the speech was that the main resources of Russia and Norway are the people, their educational and creative potential, which depends largely on the activities of the universities. Speech by Mr. Aarbakke was heard with great attention and applause.
As guests of honor the Chairman of the Murmansk Regional Duma Evgeniy Nikora, a delegation of the Consulate General of Norway in Murmansk, headed by Consul General Jon Elvedal Fredriksen and Attaché of the Representative Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Murmansk Nadezhda Gorina attended the meeting.
The event aroused great interest from regional and the Norwegian media representatives.
