Project «Bridge to democracy and journalism»

On the 23-30th of January lecturers of the department of culture studies, international communication, linguistic theory and journalism attended Luleo University of Technology (Sweden).

The MSHU department has a long term project with mass media department of Luleo University of Technology located in Pitea. The project «Bridge to Democracy and Journalism» is financed using the funds of Swedish Institute (Stockholm) and offers academic mobility programs for students and lecturers of MSHU department of culture studies, international communication, linguistic theory and journalism and mass media department of Luleo University of Technology (Sweden).

During the project 12 journalism students of MSHU attended Sweden and took a course in TV and radio journalism while Swedish students paid MSHU annual short term visits. During their trips lecturers of Swedish Institute and MSHU deliver lectures, attend media enterprises of Russia and Sweden and carry out academic and research seminars.

This time lecturers of the department of culture studies, international communication, linguistic theory and journalism delivered lectures on the topic «Internet Mass Media in Russia» and «Features of journalism education in Russia and in MSHU», attended the newspaper «Haparandabladet» and the radio station «Sverigeradio» and also discussed the plans of further cooperation. The project is supposed to run for another several years but with a new forth partner — except Ukraine, Belorussia will also participate in the project.

Besides student exchange will continue on post graduate level: a Russian MSHU student with the same speciality will leave for post graduate studies in Luleo University of Technology with a spesialisation in journalism. Partnership with mass media department will be represented in scientific plan by the project «Media Cultures in Sweden, Russia, Ukraine in comparative aspect».
