From 28.01 to 01.02.2011 the German youth delegation of the Union of Rescue Teams THW-Jugend consisting of 11 persons visited Murmansk. The visit was organized in close cooperation of MSHU and The Murmansk Region Department of The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM). The program of stay of the German guests was very tight and productive.

On the first day of the visit in the main building of Murmansk State Humanities University its Rector Professor Andrey Sergeev, Head of EMERCOM in the Murmansk region Major-General Vladimir Svetelsky, and Head of the delegation of the Union of Youth rescue teams THW-Jugend Ingo Henke, signed a cooperation agreement, which determines the main directions of further trilateral cooperation. Major General V. Svetelsky in his speech acknowledged the high level of training of MSHU student rescue team. Proceedings of the meeting were given a detailed coverage by the regional mass media.

In addition to official events our guests had a rich cultural program, which included a city tour, a visit to the nuclear-powered icebreaker «Lenin», the Local Lore Museum, Trifonov Pechenga monastery, to the shopping and entertainment complex «Forum» and a visit to the fire station of EMERCOM and Murmansk Fire Service Museum.

On January 29, during their trip to Kirovsk, German rescuers could get acquainted with the equipment and work of the local EMERCOM base, participated in the avalanche search and resque exercises and had an excursion to the Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden.

The German delegation consisted mainly of young people aged 18-20, i. e. they are of the same age as our students. Many of them have never been to Russia before. Apparently, our German friends were pleased with how they spent these few days, because they learned a lot of useful and interesting things. After all, the main purpose of such visits is to share experience, enhance level of rescuers’ training in today’s challenging conditions. A return visit of MSHU delegation to Germany has been scheduled for July 2011.
