Annual International Conference «Arctic Frontiers»

On the 23rd−24th of January the Annual International Conference «Arctic Frontiers» took place at the University of Tromso. The topics discussed at the conference concerned the general policy in the Northern territories, fishery, preservation of fishing resources in the Northern seas, the arctic ecosystem management.

The chairs of the conference were Evgeny Nikora, Speaker of the Murmansk Regional Duma and Pia Svensgaard, Chair of the Troms County Government. MSHU representatives at the conference were Irina Shadrina, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Perspective Development and Inna Ryzhkova, Director of the Center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs.

A mini-seminar called «Structural Changes in the System of Higher Education in the Circumpolar North» took place within the conference. During the seminar, which hosted all the countries — members of the University of Arctic, they discussed problems of higher education reformation in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia.

Besides, within the framework of the conference a workshop «From Lomonosov to Nansen», took place and it involved young researchers from different northern institutions discussing the heritage of the great scientists. Our University was represented by Yulia Shestova in this workshop.
