«Young Scientists in the Barents region» research camp

From the 1st till the 5th of November 2010 MSPU students: Natalia Lebedeva, Lidia Shalak, Egor Demjanchenko (Faculty of Natural Sciences, Physical Culture and Life Safety), Ilya Kasatkin, Bethany Webster, Alexey Zubov (Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Information Science and Programming), Vice-Director of the center for Academic Mobility, International Projects and Programs Alexandra Burtseva, Head of the Department of the Russian language, Literature and Methods of Teaching Svetlana Antoshina and 10 school children from Murmansk participated in the research camp «Young Scientists in the Barents region», organized by Tromsø kommune.

Rector of the University of Tromsø, Jarle Aarbakke, opened the event.

The students and the pupils took part in a presentation by the faculty of computer science at the University seeing their technology wall and trying Segways. The youth were very enthusiastic and excited.

The research camp is the first activity in the project «young researchers in the Barents region», a project lead by Kristoffer Svendsen at Tromsø kommune.

The aim of the project is to create collaboration between pupils, teachers, students and teacher educators in Troms and Murmansk region through the concept of «young researchers».

«Young researchers in the Barents region» is a project which is to facilitate research on each other, with each other and in community with each other. The main goal is a Barents Finale in Tromsø in January 2013 with participants from Norway, Russia, Finland and Sweden.
