Meeting with John Mark King in the frames of the conference «Teaching English in New Educational Environment: Problems, Approaches, Perspectives»

On 17th and 18th of May on the base of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism a conference «Teaching English in New Educational Environment: Problems, Approaches, Perspectives» was held. The main guest and the host of this event was the teacher of English John Mark King. In the frames of this event the speeches of teachers and students of our university department of foreign languages took place.

During the conference the questions of the peculiarities of teaching English were discussed. On the first day Mr. King spoke about the best way of giving comments to the work of students, who are English language learners. On the second day there was a workshop entitled «Judging a book by its cover.» During this workshop students were divided into groups and had to choose a book. The task was — to discuss if the cover reflects the contents of the book, if it attracts their attention, and what is the cover selling — a book or an author.

Further the workshop presentations of foreign language teachers took place, and after the break, John King continued his presentation. This time he spoke about the way he understands the culture. The question was if, in his opinion, the term suits to what we usually call «the culture», and how does the interpretation of cultures influence the communication of people.

Active interaction of speakers with listeners and vivid examples from life experience, helped to make the conference interesting and useful for all participants. Perhaps the most important thing was that everyone spoke English. Undoubtedly, it was great practice for students and teachers.
