On February 19, the head of MASU met the EU Special Envoy in the Arctic, Mrs. Marie-Anne Coninsx. Representatives of the flagship university — Acting Rector Irina Shadrina and Head of Research and International Cooperation office Inna Ryzhkova told the quests about the university and the prospects for the development of the Murmansk Arctic State University.

«MASU has the status of a flagship university in the region, and now the university is doing a lot of work to improve the structure of the educational process, research work, and international projects. Our activities are closely related to the Arctic, and in our research and programs, we strive to apply innovative technologies. The development program of MASU is inextricably linked with the problems of the AZRF, and the development strategy of the region is reflected in the educational programs of the university,» Irina Shadrina stressed.

«Our main partners are the countries of BEAR. The university considers the internationalization of higher education as the main development strategy. The stability of cooperation with foreign universities is ensured, above all, by the integration of science and education: we implement joint international projects and undergraduate and graduate programs. Also, MASU has a high level of academic mobility both among teachers and students,» said Inna Ryzhkova presenting the main projects of the university.

Ms. Coninsx noted that despite the difficult relations between Russia and the European Union, she always enjoys visiting Russian universities.

«Every time I make an official visit, it’s important for me to visit the university — I like to communicate and exchange views with representatives of academia. A visit to MASU is one of the main goals of my trip here. I am pleased that cooperation with the countries of Europe is at a high level, while I am confident that we have prospects for further cooperation,» said Ms. Coninsx. She also stressed that she hopes for the EU and Russian universities to work together, including MASU, in solving environmental problems, especially the issue of black carbon, which is very important in North-West Russia.
