On April 25, a consul of the main Consulate of Sweden Marten Frankby officially visited Murmansk Arctic State University. Lyubov Petrova, education and science cooperation assistant was accompanying the consul. Andrey Sergeev, MASU Rector, Maria Knyazeva, vice rector for Research, and Inna Ryzhkova, Head of Research and International Cooperation office also took part in a meeting.
MASU rector spoke about the perspective of university’s development as the regional flagship university and highlighted an importance of an international activity and internationalization of higher education.
«Promotion of foreign languages plays particular part in internationalization development in MASU. First of all we’re talking about languages of Scandinavian countries — the countries which border with Murmansk region in BEAR» — Andrey Sergeev said.
«MASU has programs of Swedish and Norwegian languages, but the university doesn’t have Swedish native speaker necessary for quality education. There was such program, but it’s been over about a decade ago» — Inna Ryzhkova noted.
Marten Frankby listened to the analysis of the current situation and said that he would negotiate with the Swedish institute about the native speaker for teaching the culture and Swedish language in MASU.
During the next academic year the negotiations regarding this issue will continue and the administration of MASU will create the appropriate conditions for adding the Swedish language in an educational program.
