On July 26, Murmansk Arctic State University hosted an official delegation of the European Union in the Russian Federation represented by Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation Marcus Ederer and Senior Councilor, head of the Department in the Delegation of the European Union to the RF Richard Burger.

This is Ambassador’s second visit to the Murmansk region. First time he visited the region as a tourist. As Marcus Ederer remarked, the Murmansk region is a strategically important area in the world policy context. This time his visit to the region followed his conversation with head of Rosatom in Moscow who invited the delegation to visit the Murmansk region in order to see the floating nuclear power station «Akademik Lomonosov» before it leaves the region for the Arctic, the ice-breaker «Yamal» which undergoes scheduled repair in the dry dock and also to see the legend of the Soviet ice-breaker building «Lenin».

«We are here in order to carry out negotiations with Universities and the Governor and also to see the results of several projects which have been financed jointly by Russian and European Union within „Kolarctic“ and „Northern Dimension“ programmes. First of all, I would like to thank the Rector for her time and opportunity to meet us, talk and exchange opinions on this topic. The University is realizing 2 projects. Besides, we have mapped several sphere for potential interaction with „Erasmus+“ and „Jean Monnet“ programs for student academic mobility and other forms of cooperation with European universities», — Marcus Ederer shared his opinion.

During the meeting they discussed international projects, student and teacher academic mobility programs, joint research issues.

«As the next stage of our cooperation we will conclude an agreement because we are always open to new realities in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. They like our ideas in the sphere of tourism and design. They expressed interest in our achievements in fashion-design within which MASI is the leader in the University community. They know about our cooperation with Finnish and Norwegian Universities within different projects and we are going to develop them!», — MASU Acting Rector Irina Shadrina summed up.
