An official visit of MASU delegation to Riveria (Joensuu, Finland)

Following the Russian-Finnish meeting of business circles within the framework of the Murmansk International Business Week, the Director of MASU in Kirovsk Anna Razumovskaya and the advisor of Research and International cooperation office Mikhail Uksusov had a working visit to Finland. The purpose of the visit was to study the experience of training as well as participation in the international conference «Northern potential in the Barents region».

The program of the visit was very busy. The first two days of staying were devoted to the study of the experience of training professional staff, including for the mining complex, in the largest educational syndicate in Northern Karelia in Finland — Riveria.

In this syndicate, more than 17,000 young people and adults study in 13 campuses located in 13 municipalities with 130 basic, professional and specialized qualifications and they take advanced training courses every year. Forms of study include: professional qualifications and continuing education, apprenticeship, free education and summer activities. In recognition of the quality of professional education, the syndicate was awarded with the «The Quality of Professional Education» award in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Esa Karvinen, Director of the Association of Municipalities, University Rector, Meriya Laituri-Korhonen, Corporate Manager, Jaana Rekolainen, Director General of the Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce, and Pekka Martikainen attended the business meeting in Riveria. Both sides presented their educational organizations, studied the experience of interaction with employers, including training on the requests of companies. Anna Razumovskaya made a presentation on the cooperation of KF AO Apatite with the branch of MASU in Kirovsk, which caused a positive response from the Finnish side in the matter of PhosAgro investments in the education of young people and the training of professional staff. Following the meeting, it was decided to prepare a draft agreement on cooperation between the organizations.

The program included visits to three cities in North Karelia, where campuses for preparing students in the mining industry, examining training equipment, training devices, simulators, visiting a mining branch in Outokumpu, a mining site in the city of Kuopio and a quarry of blasting operations, a mining museum are located. When communicating with students and teachers there was an opportunity to get acquainted with the method of teaching, the opinion of students about the education they receive, and with the rules, material and technical base for holding the Worldskills professional skills championships.

The third day of the working visit was devoted to participation in the International Conference «Northern potential in the Barents Region», which was attended by representatives of business and industry, education, youth councils of universities from 13 countries. The Ambassadors of Sweden and Norway to Finland, the Secretary of the Russian Ambassador to Finland, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development and Industry of the Republic of Karelia, the Chairman of the Barents Regional Youth Council, and others spoke with welcome address by the audience. The conference discussed issues of regional cooperation, supporting business, competence in high technology and education, profitable business investment in education for the training of professional staff and the preservation of youth in the territory of the Barents Region.

After the parallel sections, Ms. Jaana Rekolainen made a closing statement, noting the importance of issues in the consolidation of business and education. The results of the conference were summed up at a reception in City Hall Joensuu, organized by the Mayor of the city. The second day of the conference was devoted to visiting business companies and the University of Eastern Finland in North Karelia as a meeting place for Eastern and Western cultures in tourism.
