Murmansk Arctic State University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India, held a joint online seminar. The event was initiated by the Institute of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship of MASU and the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies of JNU.

«Cooperation between universities began two years ago, and since then joint conferences have been held, collections of articles have been published. And now the online meetings make it possible to strengthen communication said Elena Tereshchenko, head of the Department of Arts and Design of MASU.

The cooperation agreement provides an opportunity to exchange best practices and experience, develop joint courses and research projects, organise cross-cultural exchanges between students and teachers and conduct joint research and educational activities.

The seminar was addressed by the head of the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies, Professor Phool Badan. The professor thanked colleagues at MASU for productive cooperation and spoke about the activities of the Centre.

The Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies has been operating for over 50 years. Several research laboratories of the university are working in these fields. Significant success has been achieved in the projects related to computer modeling of physical processes in the near-Earth environment and the state of the ionosphere before earthquakes. Most of the researches are aimed at the Arctic region, but global level researches are also underway at MASU.

Tatiana Ashutova, Director of the Institute of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship of MASU, spoke about the Institute’s activities and upcoming major events that could become platforms for joint discussions. Tatiana Ashutova noted that creative events related to design and art projects will be of interest to young people from any country.

Zoya Zhelnina, Associate Professor of the Department of Service and Tourism, outlined the prospects for cooperation in the development of tourist-oriented projects and emphasized that the University is interested in increasing the academic mobility of students.

«To develop a hospitality culture students need to understand how India sees Russia, through which sources (books, films, websites) students form their knowledge and impressions about the country. The results of such studies can be tested at joint conferences and international exchanges,» Zoya Zhelnina said.

The seminar was concluded with an agreement to plan joint activities between students and lecturers for this year.
