Future teachers of English and German, Daria Bolkhovskaya and Anastasia Mostovaya took part in the 48-hour innovative competition #HackTheCrisisBarents.

Their team suggested a way of dealing with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and won the competition. The savvy northerners got 30k Norwegian crones to fund their project.

«To be honest, our team saw the competition as an interesting experience and didn’t expect victory. But along with experience we got a grant. We had limited time to work on the project, it wasn’t easy because all of us had to study and work as well. We’re very excited but also worried — now we’ll have to work twice as much», Anastasia said.

The team’s solution was to create a cross-border cooperation platform which would unite cultural organizations of the Barents region and allow them to hold events, study the region and meet new people while staying home during the pandemic.

«This was a great opportunity to test our abilities. For us it was an interesting way of spending our free time on the lockdown. 48-hours of non-stop teamwork were very productive. We’re very happy we won but we also realize that in the near future we’ll have to work hard to bring our idea to life», Daria emphasized.

We congratulate the team and our students on their victory and wish them success in the future!
