Tromso, Norway, hosted the international conference «Arctic Frontiers: The Power of Knowledge» aimed at discussing and searching for new ideas and solutions for sustainable development of the northern regions.

Scientists, politicians and representatives of various public and educational organizations took part in the annual conference.

Anna Popova, head of the Project Office of MASU and Associate Professor of the Department of Service and Tourism, took part in the event too. At the conference she highlighted the need for cooperation between educational organizations and business in the development of the hospitality industry.

The conference is not a purely scientific one, but has some practical aspects too — it helps to improve communication between nations, generations and ethnic groups. For instance, this year was the first time the development of Arctic tourism has become one of the key issues. Moreover, participants discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the tourism business and educational organizations in Norway and Russia.

«The Arctic Frontiers» conference has been held since 2006. This is the first global scientific conference on sustainable economic, social and environmental growth in the north.
