Senior lecturer of the Department of Arts and Services of the Murmansk Arctic State University Tatiana Batova won the contest of the governor’s artist grants.

The Ministry of Culture of the Murmansk Region will support Tatiana Batova’s «Laboratory of Contemporary Design». Twenty-nine projects were submitted to the contest committee, but only 21 of them were admitted to take part in the examination stage of the contest. Federal experts selected 12 projects for the final and the project of Tatiana Batova became the winner.

The main objectives of the project is to formulate visual local identity of the Murmansk region and to create unique products with a regional component. The project promotes the collaboration of artists, designers, artisans, craftsmen, entrepreneurs and marketers and includes the production of design prototypes, a competition among masters, exhibition of the best artworks and publishing of the catalog. Colleagues from the Institute of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship of MASU and external experts will help Tatiana Batova to bring her idea to life.

«An idea came to my mind: if our region would have to present its design products samples — what would we show at an all-Russian or international exhibition? Accordingly, the project is focused on the search for local identifiers. Our local identity is mainly our local craft. The first stage is always a research. You need to see what crafts we have, what we produce, what technologies and materials we use. Thus, it will be possible to figure out some local visual identifiers,» Tatiana Batova explains.

Congratulations to Tatiana Batova, we wish you every success with your project!
