Murmansk Arctic State University, the autonomous non-profit organization for the development of national tourism «AgroEkoTourism» and the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers have signed a cooperation agreement.

On August 27, the document was signed by the Acting Rector of MASU Irina Shadrina, the head of the project «Gastronomic Map of Russia» Ekaterina Shapovalova and the President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers Igor Bukharov. The signing of the agreement took place in a solemn atmosphere at the Youth Center for Technological and Social Entrepreneurship of MASU «Co-working-51».

At the meeting, a voluntary certification system was presented, which will serve to increase the competitiveness of MASU graduates.

«For 40 years I have seen the problem of the level of service and hospitality. Now young teachers and entrepreneurs come to educational institutions, that promote modern trends and opportunities to provide services in the regions. If you gather entrepreneurs today, they will say that the main problem is the staff. We need to establish contact between business and education», said the President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers Igor Bukharov.

A flagship university will help to solve the personnel problems of the industry in the Murmansk region. MASU efficiently cooperates with the regional government and business representatives in such areas as medicine, creative economics, logistics, urban studies and others. One of the priority areas for training specialists is tourism and hospitality. The University trains mid-level specialists in Kirovsk and higher-level specialists in Murmansk. The University organizes professional practice for hospitality students at hotels, motels and other institutions of the region, and in the future — these students will become professional employees at these enterprises. Student’s projects are already being introduced into the work of enterprises.

«Almost all tourists note the stunning nature and unusual climate, as well as delicious food. But transport logistics, interpreters, service personnel in hotels and tourist complexes leave much to be desired. We train personnel, so we cannot lag behind the learning process and we are in the very core of it. We invite business representatives to design curriculums. We are interested in what competencies our graduates must have in order to come and say: «I am a young specialist. Here is my idea, let’s put it into practice», said Acting Rector of MASU Irina Shadrina.

«Tourism» and «Service» study areas are relatively new for the flagship university. The first graduation of specialists in these areas is planned for the coming academic year. However, these areas are popular every year. For example, in 2020 the admission competition was two or three people per seat.
