In April, the Murmansk Arctic State University and the production company «Northern Character» will hold a forum «Russia and Norway — at the Crossroads of Epochs and Cultures» funded by the Presidential Grants Foundation. The event is dedicated to the history of relations between the two countries and successful cultural projects that the nations organize nowadays.

The forum celebrates the 200th birth anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky — the writer whose heritage has gained global significance and influenced the Norwegian literature.

The project highlights will take place on 18-21st of April at several venues — the Murmansk Regional Scientific Library, the Murmansk Museum of Regional Studies, business centre «Meridian» and «Galaktika» movie theatre («Plazma» shopping centre). Citizens of four towns — Murmansk, Nikel, Tromso and Kirkenes — will take part in the forum.

The programme includes the scientific-practical conference «Dialogue of Cultures: the Past and Present of the Russian-Norwegian Cultural Cooperation», public lecturers, film screening, meet-the-author sessions, exhibitions and excursions. Online streaming and simultaneous Russian-Norwegian translation will be organized for some of the events.

The forum participants will have a chance to engage in an international research projects contest for under- and postgraduate students «Russian and Norway: Dialogue of Cultures» and «Arctic-Lyrics» literary translation contest.

There will be several discussion venues: «Contemporary Literature of the Arctic Region: Cooperation Issues» and «The Nordic Flavour in Literary Translation» workshop. Following the forum, collections of both articles and literary works will be published.
