On April 19, pedagogues of the Murmansk Arctic State University took part in a scientific conference held, within the framework of the forum «Russia and Norway — at the Crossroads of Epochs and Cultures».

The forum was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky, whose work influenced the culture of many countries. The connection of the northern peoples was the main topic of the international conference called «Dialogue of two cultures». The issue was explored by both Russian and Norwegian speakers.

«People who live in the north of Russia and Norway have a similar perception of their surroundings. It is interesting to discuss what we have in common; besides, it is important for further cooperation,» said the head of the Department of Modern Languages Svetlana Vinogradova.

During the conference, Andrei Mironyuk, a teacher of the Department of Arts and Design at MASU, revealed the peculiarity of musical culture at the turn of the 21st century. The audience had the opportunity to immerse into the atmosphere of creativity. For instance, a Norwegian artist and composer attended the event to perform music on the ice instruments.

«It was a real dialogue of two cultures. Topics for discussion were various: history, modern interaction in the areas of music, drama art and design,» said the head of the Department of Arts and Design Elena Tereshchenko.

The conference was held offline and online. The recording of the live broadcast can be viewed on the MASU YouTube channel.

«Such events are important, but during the current pandemic they also give us a chance to communicate and keep up with scientific progress. It was amazing to listen to speeches of such a high scientific quality and get to know a foreign view on the problems. In my opinion, the lockdown deprives us of this,» said the professor of the Department of Philology and Media Communications at MASU Olga Ivanischeva.
