Ambassador-at-Large for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the rector of MASU

On September 8, Murmansk Arctic State University hosted a working meeting between Nikolai Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Arctic Council's Committee of Senior Officials, and the university's management. Yulia Zvorykina, Deputy Director of the Institute of Research and Expertise of the State Development Corporation «VEB.RF», Maria Knyazeva, Vice-Rector for Research Activities at MASU, and Mikhail Uksusov, Russian Youth Envoy for International Cooperation in the Arctic and employee of MASU's International Cooperation Department also attended the event.

The meeting was devoted to discussing opportunities to integrate the university's work into the agenda of Russian Chairmanship in the Arctic Council and into the activities of the University of the Arctic. In addition, the parties discussed promising areas of project-based research, social and cultural activities, opportunities for cooperation with large public and private stakeholders, as well as the youth agenda of Russian Chairmanship in the Arctic Council.

According to Irina Shadrina, Rector of MASU, the university has many competencies on the issues discussed, in particular on the development of creative industries in the Arctic, health protection, spatial planning of coastal areas, as well as social, educational and youth agenda.

Maria Knyazeva, Deputy Rector of MASU on scientific and research activity announced a major international conference on the inland seas EMECS'14, which will first take place above the Arctic Circle in 2024 on the initiative of the International Centre for Environmental Management of Coastal Seas (EMECS, Japan). Ambassador-at-Large Nikolai Korchunov noted that the event would have the best impact on the international agenda in the Arctic, especially considering the fact that Japan is an observer country in the Arctic Council.

The event was held in the framework of interdepartmental pilot research exercises of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, timed to coincide with the program of the Russian Chairmanship in the Arctic Council.
