Start of Winter School of the Norwegian language at MASU

On January 17, Murmansk Arctic State University launched a Winter School of the Norwegian language for MASU students who study Norwegian.

The course is designed as a 6-hour group sessions every day for ten days with both Russian teachers and native speakers from Norway. The Norwegian intensive course offers students of all levels of Norwegian the opportunity to develop their language skills through immersion into the Norwegian language, group work on thematic projects and engaging in various activities. The students of the Winter School will have online classes with native speakers from Norway, round tables on languages and cultures with young people from The Norwegian-Russian School in Murmansk and representatives of some Norwegian companies.

«Apart from focusing on the vocabulary and grammar of the Norwegian language, customs and traditions of Norway, the intensive course includes meetings with the representatives of the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Murmansk, the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, and Barents Press Russia. They will tell our students about the international cooperation in various areas», said Elena Kvasyuk, the head of the project and associate professor at MASU Modern Languages Department. «Cooperation in the Barents region is an important platform for young people living here. It helps to overcome any prejudices and build up trust between citizens of Russia and Norway. That is why learning the language of the neighbouring country is vital. We want our students not only to speak the Norwegian language but also understand how, where and in which areas they can use it».

The Winter School of the Norwegian language is designed by MASU Modern Languages Department and funded by the Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (Diku).

The classes start on January 17 until January 28, from 10.00 to 14.00 every day.
