2022 MASU Badminton Tournament Recap

Murmansk Arctic State University held an annual Badminton Tournament in mid-December of 2022, which coincided with the tournament's 15th anniversary.

'MASU Badminton Tournament is a good tradition of our university. Each year it gets more popular,' said Sergey Chaynikov, Head Judge and Associate professor of Physical Education, Sport and Life Safety Department. 'For the second year in a row, the tournament is qualified as international, as there are international students from India among the participants'.

This time, 7 boys and 9 girls competed in singles. Badminton is one of the most popular sports in India. Therefore, it was no surprise that the winners among males were our Indian students: Rai Surya Pratap, Subbiah Harish and Porandla Jyginas. As for Russian students, Vladimir Podobedov, student of Physical Education, Sport and Life Safety Department, took the 4th place.

The top 3 in female slightly changed — the winner and the runner-up of the 2021 Tournament switched places this year. Anna Surikova, Anastasia Igoshina and Maria Ivanova, all students of Physical Education, Sport and Life Safety Department, swept the podium.

'This tournament is a great opportunity for students to try their hand in badminton and gain some experience from professional participants, as the tournament is open for both pros and amateurs', said Anastasia Igoshina, 2nd place winner.
