Consul General of the People's Republic of China visits Murmansk Arctic State University

The Rector and Vice-Rector of Murmansk Arctic State University held a meeting with Ms. Wang Wenli, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in St. Petersburg. The Consul General arrived in Murmansk on a working visit with Mr. Cao Xin, Consul for Science and Technology, and Mr. Liu Xinyu, Second Secretary of the Consulate General.

Earlier, Andrey Chibis, the Governor of Murmansk region, also held a meeting with the Chinese delegation. They covered joint work on the Northern Sea Route development, and technological cooperation in metallurgy and mining industries, as well as cooperation in science and tourism. Back at the university, MASU representatives and Ms. Wang Wenli discussed the possibilities of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the area of education and science.

'Russia and China are strategic partners. The two countries plan to develop a comprehensive partnership in various areas, including higher education and science. Murmansk region is of particular interest for us in terms of conducting joint Arctic research on oceanology and environmental monitoring,' noted Ms. Wang Wenli during the meeting.

George Gogoberidze, Vice-Rector for Research Affairs, presented the university's research priorities and spoke about the partners in China — the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), Wuhan University and Weihai Vocational College. The Vice-Rector also announced the Arctic Health School, organized by Murmansk Arctic State University together with Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology. The School will start its work this autumn as part of the 2022−2023 Cross Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Fitness and Sports. Irina Shadrina, MASU Rector, expressed the university's interest in cooperation with the Chinese partners.

'We seek for productive and beneficial cooperation, and to do so we plan to build a business partnership with universities in China,' summed up the Rector.
