Young researcher wins RSF grant

On July 11th, the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) awarded Darya Kolotova, a young researcher from Murmansk Arctic University, with a grant of 1.5 million roubles to develop her project in Chemistry and Marine Bio-resources. This is her second initiative, the first having been successfully finilised in June 2023.

According to Darya, the current project is aimed at creating biodegradable antimicrobial wrapping from fish gelatin and sodium alginate. It would be used to extend expiration date of frozen meats and fish. Moreover, such an innovative material would help solve a number of ecological issues in production and usage of petroleum-based plastics.

UTR Summer School

In July, the annual Union of Translators of Russia (UTR) Summer School took place in MAU. This is a platform for those who are interested in translation, in order for the to exchange experiences. Three MAU students to receive a million roubles

Student Startup federal project has finished. The project is a great platform for young entrepreneurs to gain support for their ideas and develop them. Three of the winners were students of Murmansk Arctic University — Nikita Terekhov (Techno-sphere Safety, 4th year), Darya Kuznetsova (Design, this year's graduate), and Yekaterina Borovinskaya (Food Technology, this year's MSC graduate). They presented their innovative projects in the spheres of new materials, chemical technologies, and creative initiatives. Each of them will receive a million roubles grant to implement their ideas.

When asked to share her impressions, Darya Kuznetsova said: «It has been my childhood dream to own a business, though I've never fully understood of what kind, to be exact. At university, our teacher suggested participating in this project, and so I did. The core of my project is to help as many people as possible to be involved in art. I believe my project will also offer a place for students to have practical training.» She also gave advice to those who might want to take part in Student Startup project: «Don't be afraid to go for your dreams, evolve, and remember — the brighter, the better.»

I wish everyone not to be afraid of and follow your dreams.»
