MAU students created their own startups on business intensive course

Murmansk Arctic University held a series of meetings as part of the project «Platform for student technological entrepreneurship». Within 5 days more than 300 students took part in an intensive course TekhPred, creating their own startups in the format of a business role-playing game.

People with hands-on experience, experts from startup studio «Open Innovations» became the mentors: Natalia Ababiy, head of Distant Global educational platform, senior partner of WIN Corp. company group, member of international community PRO Women, and Dmitri Poletaev, head of special projects of GeekBrains educational platform, federal expert of WINbd, Russian Society «Znanie», Rosmolodezh, Rybakov Fond.

Experts explained why technological startups are more profitable than traditional business, how the idea for startup may appear, as well as how to put a product on the market.

«Students shared their ideas that may actually be implemented in reality. It was great that they themselves understood what to start with, for example, not to rush and create phone apps but begin with programming simple chat-bots,» shared Dmitri Poletaev.

«Murmansk students had great ideas connected with both society and technology. Eight hours are not enough to teach them everything but we gave them basic knowledge of starting up their own business,» said Natalia Ababiy.

Students also expressed their thoughts and impressions about the course:

Anastasia Yavnikova: «This course helped me discover leadership skills in myself. I was the leader of my team, and we presented a project that would help track fish migration

Sergei Maltsev: «I really enjoyed the role-playing game format and learned three important things: not to be afraid of failure, to ask and suggest my own ideas. I will definitely take part in such events in the future

Aleksandra Aleshkina: «I got the idea what I need to do to start my own business. I understood that making mistakes is not scary at all.»

Danil Sadokov: «We learned how to present our projects correctly, how to speak with investors, and many other things. If we decide to start our own businesses in the future, the skills we developed on this training course will definitely be useful
