Experts Shared Details of Migration Legislation with MAU International Students

One of the goals of Bridge to the Arctic («Мост в Арктику») project was to inform the international students about their rights and obligations according to the current migration legislation.

The meeting with the specialists of the Migration Affairs Office was held on November 25, 2024. Yulia Shestova, the Head of the International Cooperation Office, opened the meeting with a speech on working with international students at the university. Yulia also introduced a new mobile application and a guide on migration matters to students and visitors.

«Today the students had a unique opportunity to get reliable information of visa requirements, rules of stay in Russia, as well as other legal matters. This knowledge will help students avoid accidental violations of the law which may lead to serious consequences. Such meetings are an integral part of social and cultural adaptation on international students, because they create safe and informative environment for students and eventually influence their academic success and integration to a new country,» noted Yulia Shestova.

The meeting was held in Q&A format which allowed each student to ask questions on how to receive residence permit during study period or even citizenship in the Russian Federation.

«Now I know how to become a citizen after graduating. This meeting was really important, especially for those students who wish to stay and live in Russia,» shared Alaa Aldeen Houria, a 2nd year student from Syria.
