Murmansk Arctic University Hosted International Media Tour
In October, foreign journalists participated in a press tour in the Murmansk region. The delegation included correspondents from media outlets based in Moscow, representing television, print, and digital media from Venezuela, Vietnam, the UAE, China, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. The itinerary featured visits to cultural and historical sites, as well as locations showcasing the region's economic and investment potential.
Welcoming the press tour participants, Regional Governor Andrey Chibis noted that the region was marking the 81st anniversary of the defeat of Nazi forces in the Arctic. He emphasised that the area holds significant strategic importance, both historically and currently, for Russia and the world.
«Today, the Arctic sets the global agenda, and the Murmansk region is the flagship of development and a crucial outpost for Russia on its northern frontiers,» the governor stated during his presentation. «We are implementing major infrastructure projects. Murmansk is the largest city above the Arctic Circle and the home port for the Northern Sea Route and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor—a vital competitive advantage for Russia—and the base for our unique nuclear icebreaker fleet and the Northern Fleet. President Vladimir Putin has given directives for the development of the macro-region in all areas, and a special State Council Commission, which I have been tasked to lead, has been established. Our regional team is working under the «To Live in the North!' strategy, which involves a comprehensive approach.»
A representative of the delegation, Maxim Burlyay, Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented, «Everything here is impressive—the economic potential of the city and the region, tourism opportunities, culture, and traditions. But above all, and I believe I speak for everyone, we were most impressed by the people. They are sincere, passionate about their work, and proud of their region, city, and land. We are proud of Murmansk and of our country.»
Murmansk Arctic University was one of the stops on the tour for the foreign media representatives. The guests visited key laboratories, classrooms, training simulators, an aquatic complex, and a house-prototype designed for researching energy-efficient construction technologies. They also interviewed Maria Knyazeva, University's Acting Rector, who spoke about a world-class campus project in Murmansk, started in 2024. The visit concluded with a discussion with international students, who shared their experiences of living in the Arctic.
Anastasia Fedotova, Rector's Advisor for Media Promotion, noted, «The cameras of the foreign correspondents became the eyes of millions. What they saw will be seen in many different countries around the world. The construction of the world-class campus, the work of our advanced laboratories, our scientists and students have become the focus of their reports. At this very moment, stories that will strengthen the bridges connecting our academic potential with the global community, are being created. They are clearly demonstrating that the ideas for the Arctic's future are being developed right here.»
