Under the Mask: First Ever Masquerade Ball Took Place at MAU

On December 17, 2025, a pre-New Year masquerade ball was held at the Murmansk Arctic University. The event brought together students from both higher and secondary vocational education programmes.

The evening's programme was packed with activities. The university ensemble «Klyup-Studia» kicked off the concert with a vibrant performance. A touching waltz, bright vocal acts, and creative numbers created a warm and heartfelt atmosphere.

Adding a special flair and recalling the traditions of Indian cinema was a dance performed by students from India. They were matched in enthusiasm by colleagues from China. It was a genuine intercultural dialogue within the university's walls.

New Year's cheer was boosted by Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, who organised contests with gifts for the event's participants. The celebration was capped off by a lively disco from DJ ANNSI.

Alexander Golovachev, Head of the Department of Organisational Work with Cadets (MAU Marine Academy), shared: «The idea for this event was born back in May. The students prepared a wonderful 'Waltz of Victory' performance. An initiative group was formed—the creative association 'Rhythm of the North.' The students proposed hosting their own university masquerade ball. I believe it will become an annual tradition.»

Oksana Shaldo, Head of the Youth Affairs Office, noted: «We are trying to revive the tradition of masquerade balls, which once existed in military schools across our country. Ours isn't strictly a military school, but we do have the Marine Academy, where cadets study. We wanted to see how it would turn out. And if everything remains interesting and successful, this will become our tradition for the years to come.»

Arina Davydenko, a first-year student in the teacher training programme (Russian Language and Literature), said: «I'm performing here today as part of a group with my friends. Outside, snow is falling; at home, a decorated Christmas tree is waiting; the scent of tangerines is in the air. So, the New Year mood is certainly present. And when we perform and give people joy and smiles, that mood rises even higher, becomes something tangible.»
